Hoya
Few have heard of Hoya outside the tech world, but the company is actually the world's largest supplier of specialty glass plates used in the production of chips and LCDs. It also makes components for hard-disk drives, as well as laser equipment for industrial research and medical use. The prolific Hoya is living large on the profits front. The insatiable global appetite for all manner of digital gadgets -- and by extension LCDs -- contributed to a 62% surge in net profit, to $599 million, in the fiscal year that ended March, 2005. Sales accelerated to $2.8 billion, up 13.5%. With big LCD makers such as Samsung Electronics and LG Philips ratcheting up production, Hoya is forecasting double-digit growth for its specialty glass products in the fiscal year now underway.
