Mattel (MAT) says that as a result of its ongoing investigation of its toys manufactured by vendors in China, the company has voluntarily recalled 11 toys globally, including 8 pet and furniture playsets sold under the Barbie brand, and 3 Fisher-Price toys, due to impermissible levels of lead. In total, there are 522,000 affected toys in the U.S., and 322,000 affected toys outside of the U.S.
Tyson Foods (TSN) cuts fiscal year 2007 EPS guidance to $0.72-$0.80 due to higher-than-expected live cattle costs, decline in beef revenues, higher live hog prices.
Rohm & Haas (ROH) approves a restructuring plan as part of its on-going efforts to reposition its business portfolio. Charges related to plan include asset impairment, cash severance and employee separation benefits affecting about 200 positions. The impact on third quarter EPS is expected to be approximately $0.07 per share.
Radian Group (RDN) and MGIC Investment (MTG) terminate their pending merger. The companies cited their mutual agreement that current market conditions have made combining the companies significantly more challenging.
Applebee's International (APPB) says system-wide domestic same-store sales decreased 0.9% for August.

Guess (GES) posts $0.40, vs. $0.22, second quarter EPS on 16% same-store sales rise, 48% total sales rise. Sees $1.79-$1.84 fiscal year 2008 EPS (vs. Street average estimate of $1.83). Raises its quarterly cash dividend by 33.3% to $0.08 per share.
Costco Wholesale (COST) posts 2% higher August same-store sales, 6% higher total sales.
Donaldson Company (DCI) posts $0.53, vs. $0.43, fourth quarter EPS on 13% sales rise.
Bayer AG (BAY) plans to file for delisting of its American Depositary Shares from NYSE and deregister with SEC, thereby terminate its respective reporting obligations. It expects its withdrawal from NYSE to result in annual savings of some €15 million.
