Bank of America Agrees to Acquire FleetBoston Financial
Anthem plans to buy WellPoint Health Networks, and more deal news

Bank of America (BAC ) agreed to acquire FleetBoston Financial (FBF ) in deal valued at $47 billion. The combination is expected to close in the first half of 2004. (10/27)


WellPoint Health Networks (WLP ) agreed to be acquired by Anthem (ATH ) in a deal valued at $16.4 billion. The merger will create one of the country's largest managed-care companies. (10/27)

UnitedHealth Group (UNH ) agreed to acquire Mid Atlantic Medical Services (MME ) in a $2.95 billion deal. (10/27)

Internet security technology provider Symantec (SYMC ) agreed to acquire ON Technology (ONTC ) for $100 million in cash, or $4 a share. (10/27)

AT&T Corp. (T ) and BellSouth (BLS ) are in merger talks again, a couple of months after talks fell apart, reports the Wall Street Journal. (10/24)

K2 Inc. (KTO ) agreed to buy Brass Eagle (XTRM ). Terms: 0.6036 KTO share for each XTRM share. (10/23)

NCO Portfolio (NCPM ) forms a special committee to evaluate a bid from NCO Group valued at $7.05 per share. (10/23)

SafeNet Inc. (SFNT ), a leading provider of private and public network security technology, agrees to aquire Rainbow Technologies (RNBO ). Terms: 0.374 SFNT for each RNBO share. (10/23)

Sicor (SCRI ) says it's in preliminary talks concerning a possible merger or other business combination. (10/22)

Seacoast Financial (SCFS ) agrees to buy Abington Bancorp (ABBK ) for $34 per share, or 1.4468 SCFS shares or a combination of cash and SCFS stock. (10/21)

Click2Learn (CLKS ) agrees to merge with Docent (DCNT ). Terms: 0.4144 shares of new company will be exchanged for each CLKS share. (10/21)

Open Text (OTEX ) agrees to buy Ixos Software (XOSY ). Terms: either about $10.46 cash or 0.2610 OTEX share per XOSY share. (10/21)

The Wall Street Journal names Endo Pharmaceutical Holdings (ENDP ) as a recent $30 per share bidder for Cima Labs (CIMA ). (10/17)

Central European Telecom Acquisition Corp. announces plans to buy Euroweb International (EWEB ) for $4 per share. (10/17)

Cima Labs (CIMA ) says it received roughly $30 per share bid from a pharmaceutical company, which it did not name. (10/16)

Celestica (CLS ) agrees to buy Manufacturers Services (MSV ). Terms: 0.375 CLS subordinated voting shares for each MSV share. (10/15)
