Career Education (CECO) posts breakeven third quarter EPS from continuing operations, vs. $0.18 EPS, on 5% revenue decline, narrowed operating margin.

Stage Stores (SSI) posts 8.4% lower October same-store sales, 5.1% lower total sales. Sees third quarter loss from ops. of $0.19-$0.20. Given the recent reduction in market valuation multiples, current challenging economic environment and its impact on company's reporting unit's sales, EPS performance, SSI concluded that a write-off of entire goodwill balance is warranted at this time. To take $95.4 million one-time, non-cash goodwill impairment charge in third quarter, which equates to charge of $2.47 per diluted share.

Aegon N.V. (AEG) posts EUR 500 million, vs. EUR 691 million, underlying earnings before tax, primarily due to impact of lower equity markets on variable annuities, rise in U.S. mortality experience in life reinsurance. Says third quarter results in line with pre-announcement.

AutoNation (AN) posts $7.99 third quarter loss, vs. $0.37 EPS, on 21% revenue drop. Says in third quarter 2008 it recorded non-cash charges for goodwill and franchise impairments of $1.46 billion after-tax. Expects rest of 2008 will continue to be challenging, sees U.S. industry new vehicle sales for 2008 in low 13 million unit level, an 18-year low. Says while it hard to predict new vehicle sales for 2009, the most conservative industry forecast is in the range of 12 million new vehicle units.

McDermott International (MDR) posts $0.37, vs. $0.61, third quarter EPS despite 26% increase in revenues.

OM Group (OMG) posts $1.85 (incl. non-recurring tax benefit of $0.83), vs. $1.26, third quarter EPS on 70% revenue rise. Says strong top-line growth resulted from higher product selling prices, organic volume growth within the Advanced Materials segment, and an increase in cobalt metal resale.

Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) announces a proposed offering of $10 billion of common stock to the public.

Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries (TEVA) posts $0.72, vs. $0.64, third quarter adjusted EPS on 20% revenue rise.
