MARKET MOVERS Charter One Soars Western Wireless rises; J Jill climbs; plus more of today's stocks in the news Charter One Financial (CF ) agreed to be acquired by Royal Bank of Scotland's Citizens Financial Group unit in a $10.5 billion deal. Terms: $44.50 cash per Charter One share. S&P keeps its hold ranking. Western Wireless (WWCA ) posted 32 cents first-quarter earnings per share, vs. a 30 cents loss on a 37% revenue rise. S&P maintains hold. Citigroup raised its price target. J Jill (JILL ) posted 11 cents, vs. 4 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 24% same-store sales rise and a 21% total sales rise. The women's retailer sees $118 million to $120 million in second-quarter sales and 26 cents to 30 cents earnings per share. J Jill sees $435 million to $440 million in 2004 sales and 65 cents to 70 cents earnings per share. Wedbush Morgan raised its estimates. Whole Foods Market (WFMI ) posted 54 cents, vs. 41 cents second-quarter earnings per share on 17% higher same-store sales and 24% higher total sales. Whole Foods raised its $1.93 to $2.02 fiscal 2004 earnings per share forecast to a range of $2.03 to $2.10. S&P keeps its hold ranking. Coca-Cola (KO ) named E. Neville Isdell as chairman and CEO elect to succeed Doug Daft. The transition is expected to take place by early summer. Drugstore chain CVS Corp. (CVS ) posted 59 cents, vs. 48 cents first-quarter earnings per share on 6.4% higher same-store sales. Prudential Financial (PRU ) posted 57 cents, vs. 39 cents first-quarter earnings per share a on 3.9% revenue rise. Prudential sees $3.05 to $3.25 2004 earnings per share. Vivendi Universal (V ) posted a preliminary 4.3% decline in first-quarter revenue (French GAAP) and a 7% increase at constant currency (proforma). Boston Scientific (BSX ) says preliminary net U.S. sales of its Taxus stent systems for April were $163 million, while preliminary net worldwide sales for the same period were $205 million. Total April preliminary net sales were $495 million.
