OpenTV (OPTV ) said its middleware is now included in 16 million digital set-top boxes worldwide. The company also inked an interactive TV middleware deal with the semiconductor unit of Philips Electronics (PHG ). ABM Amro is positive on the company.

Analyst Spencer Wang told S&P MarketScope that the 16 million households where OpenTV's middleware is deployed is a pretty powerful number, better than his 15.6 million estimate. Wang says the company continues to dominate from a market share standpoint. He says there is probably some upside to his Q2 revenue estimate, currently at about $21 million. Wang believes the company is on track to reach his 19.5 million deployment estimate by year-end 2001. He rates OpenTV buy, and named it Amro's single best idea.
