Liberty Media Corp. (L ) agrees to purchase an additional $500 million in News Corp. (NWS ) nonvoting stock, boosting its stake to 19% from 18%. The move may signal that Liberty won't fight News Corp. with its own bid for control of satellite broadcaster DirecTV, according to the Wall Street Journal. (3/28)


PMC Capital Inc. (PMC ) agrees to merge with PMC Commercial Trust (PCC ), with real estate investment trust PMC Commercial continuing as the surviving entity. Terms: 0.37 PCC share for each PMC share held. (3/28)

Jones Apparel Group (JNY ) has held talks to acquire Tommy Hilfiger (TOM ), according to the Wall Street Journal. The CEOs of both companies have held informal discussions and a deal is not imminent, the paper says. (3/27)

SR Telecom Inc. (T.SRX ) agrees to buy Netro Corp (NTRO ) for $3.11 per NTRO share, or about $121 million, in cash and stock. (3/27)

Career Education Corp. (CECO ) agrees to acquire Whitman Education Group (WIX ) for $14.25 per share in a deal valued at $230 million in cash and stock. (3/27)

Riverwood Holding Inc. agrees to buy Graphic Packaging International (GPK ) in a $3 billion stock deal. Graphic Packaging shareholders will receive one share of Riverwood for each of their shares, following a stock split by Riverwood. The combination creates a global paperboard packaging company serving the beverage, food and consumer products industries. (3/26)
