Coke Gains on Higher Earnings
Applied Materials rises on higher first-quarter sales; Network Appliances declines on lower revenue forecasts; plus more of Wednesday's stocks in the news

Coca-Cola (KO ) posted 50 cents, vs. 38 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share (GAAP) on 1.6% higher net operating revenues.


Applied Materials (AMAT ) posted 17 cents, vs. 5 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 14% sales rise. The company sees 16 cents to 17 cents second-quarter earnings per share on revenue flat to slightly higher, vs. the first-quarter. It sees orders flat to down 10%.

Network Appliances (NTAP ) posted 16 cents, vs. 11 cents third-quarter earnings per share (GAAP) on a 39% revenue rise. The company sees a fourth-quarter sequential revenue rise of 6% to 9% and a 16 cents earnings per share (GAAP).

Interactive Corp. (IACI ) posted a 7-cent fourth-quarter loss, vs. 20 cents earnings per share (GAAP) on 5% lower revenue.

Jones Apparel Group (JNY ) posted 28 cents, vs. 33 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share on 4.4% lower same-store sales (excluding Barneys). The company says the fourth quarter was more challenging than anticipated. It reaffirms $2.75 to $2.90 2005 earnings per share guidance and sees $5.3 billion to $5.35 billion in revenues.

Moody's Corp. (MCO ) posted 80 cents, vs. 56 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share (including items) on an 11% revenue rise. The company sees 2005 earnings per share in high single-digit percent range, excluding the impact of expensing stock-based compensation. It sets a 2-for-1 stock split.

Eyetech Pharmaceuticals (EYET ) posted a 72-cent fourth-quarter loss, vs. a 49-cent loss as higher costs offset 10% growth in collaboration revenue. The company believes 2005 net sales for Macugen will be in the range of $125 million to $140 million and does not expect to be profitable in 2005.

Outback Steakhouse (OSI ) posted 50 cents, vs. 58 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share as higher costs for tomatoes, relief contribution for hurricanes in Florida, and other factors offset an 18% revenue rise.

Audible (ADBL ) posted 6 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share, vs. a 40-cent loss on a 77% revenue rise. The company sees 2005 free cash flow of $1.6 milliono to $2 million, vs. 2004's free cash flow of $4.2 million and revenue of $59 million to $62 million.

LeapFrog Enterprises (LF ) posted a 15-cent fourth-quarter loss, vs. 72 cents earnings per share on a 23% sales decline. The company announces the resignation of COO Fred Forsyth and hires Rob Moon as replacement, sets a realignment plan, and cuts 180 jobs. S&P reiterates sell.

Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF ) posted $1.15, vs. 97 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share on a 9% same-store sales rise and 23% total sales rise. The company sees $2.80 to $3.00 fiscal 2006 earnings per share on net sales growth of about 20%. S&P reiterates buy.

Nordstrom (JWN ) posted $1.03, vs. 74 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share (pro forma) on 7.2% higher same-store sales and 9.4% higher total sales. The company sees $3.25 to $3.35 fiscal 2006 earnings per share reflecting low single-digit same-store sales growth. It also sees 62 cents to 67 cents first-quarter earnings per share.

FTD Group (FTD ) says its Consumer Business segment experienced an increase of about 19% in total orders of flowers and specialty gifts this Valentine's Day season, vs. a year ago. The Florist Business also experienced strong growth.

Mohawk Industries (MHK ) posted $1.52, vs. $1.51 fourth-quarter earnings per share on an 8% sales rise. The company sees $1.03 to $1.12 first-quarter earnings per share. S&P keeps buy.
