Creative ETFs on a new web site for investors

Posted by: Aaron Pressman on January 22, 2007

Hedge fund manager and prolific author James Altucher has a fascinating new web site called Stockpickr which tracks the disclosed portfolios of famous and successful investors (via SEC filings) and adds in community posting, Web 2.0-type functionality. Among other things, you can input a list of stocks and see which super managers have the most similar portfolios. Good stuff.

There’s an interesting post up (tip o’ the cap to Charles Kirk) on some of the more interesting exchange-traded funds that hit the market recently. Altucher discusses funds like the Claymore Ocean Tomo Patent fund (Symbol: OTP), which owns companies that have valuable patents. The strategy beat the S&P 500 by more than 3 percentage points annually over the past 10 years.
