Foton America surprised many attendees of this week’s Alternataive Fuels & vehicles National Conference in Orlando by showing a Chinese built CNG Transit Bus with enough U.S. componentry to satisfy the “Buy American” requirements for Federally funded agencies.
The key U.S. components are an ISL G compressed-natural-gas engine from Cummins Westport, as well as U.S. made fuel cylinders.
Foton is going to offer the bus later this year for roughly the same price to fleet buyers as diesel buses.
Many cities are moving toward natural gas buses because they are cleaner burning and less polluting. A neew Federal energy bill may heap on added incentives, too, for municipalities to buy the CNG buses, as well as clean-diesel buses.
