A while ago, my colleague Aili McConnon wrote a sweet piece about the man behind the Google Doodle, the guy who customizes the look of the search engine’s logo on a seemingly daily basis. I just caught a post on the Unbeige blog about a 6th grader from Castro Valley in California winning this year’s “Doodle 4 Google” competition, challenging students to come up with their take. Her sunny creation, below, is on the home page all day today.
But you know what this reminded me of… how I haven’t actually seen the front page of Google in forever. Don’t know about you, but I use the Google bar embedded in my browser window. So I open Firefox and can Google then and there. As far as I’m concerned, the Google home page is pretty much the front page of any search enquiry. I’m not really sure if this is important, but somehow it’s interesting to be reminded of how systems and processes become second nature — and a previous way of doing something suddenly seems so archaic.
What comes next? The Bloomberg Businessweek Innovation and Design blog chronicles new tools for creativity and collaboration, innovation case studies in both the corporate and social sectors, and the new ideas that have the power to change the way things have always been done.
