It's all about Nokia

Sometimes companies, themes or trends just keep assaulting your radar. Today it’s the turn of Nokia, which for no particular reason is turning up everywhere I look. Piers Fawkes of trend analysts, PSFK, sends this video of a recent talk by Timo Veikkola, Future Strategist at Nokia, who talks about the intersection of design, technology and society and explains the company’s process of innovation. It’s a little dry at times but he has some pretty interesting insights.

Then there’s this really interesting survey by another Nokia field researcher, Jan Chipchase, who we’ve profiled on the Innovation & Design channel before. This particular survey looks at where and how people carry their mobile phones. I can confirm that I am one of the 61% of women who has her phone in her bag at all times, and I can also confirm that I am one of the 50% who misses calls as a result. The survey doesn’t tally the accompanying rage of being unable to locate a ringing and buzzing object within a suddenly bottomless handbag, but I would hazard a guess that it rates at about 100%.
