OLPC summer camp for uber gamers

Posted by: Jessi Hempel on May 22

If you’re a gamer, developer, designer. If you’re a teacher, a player, or just plain creative, you might want to check out the gaming jam at Olin College in Needham, MA. Think of it as summer camp for uber gamers. For a nominal fee that includes meals and two overnights on campus, teams of around three will face off in a quest to design the coolest pussible open-source games for the One Laptop Per Child platform (the XO). OLPC is the nonprofit started by MIT Media Lab to put inexpensive computers (the goals is $100, but they aren’t there yet) into the hands of children around the world, especially the two billion kids who live on less than a dollar a day.

Code is to be released on SourceForge under the GNU General Public License. That means folks can freely experiment with the source and games. The winning team gets XO Laptops and free tickets to next year’s Game Developer’s Conference.
