Sign Up For The IDEA Awards Contest--Fast.

Posted by: Bruce Nussbaum on February 23, 2008

You have a few days, or weeks if you don’t mind being a bit late in filing, to enter what is probably the most important design contest in the world. That’s the Industrial Design Excellence Awards contest juried by the IDSA, the Industrial Designers Society of America. When designers me how to attract the attention of CEOs and the business world in general, I tell them to win big in the IDEA. When business folks ask me where to find the best designers, I send them to the winners of the IDEA.

IDEO, Continuum, Ziba, and most of the big brand design/innovation consultancies have made their reputations in part by winning IDEAs year after year.

The IDEAs, Red-dot, IDF, Good Desgin etc. no longer have the influence they once had I am afraid...Leaders of the firms you mention are now in the twilight of their careers, as well as the design markets they helped create.

The globalized market for design is now much much larger than the focus that these design awards highlight (especially the US IDEA award). A new higher quality sustainable paradigm for design is being erected as the US boomer big box model crumbles, and the rise of new markets in China and India are being created.
