Roger Martin, dean of the Rotman School of Management in Toronto, has a great book out called The Opposable Mind in which he talks about how successful CEOs have integrative thinking—they can hold two ideas in their heads and instead of being driven nuts, they become even more creative. One of Roger’s chapters is on A.G Lafely and how he runs P&G.
P&G posted a big 14% gain in profits in the latest quarter, so this insight into why the leadership of the company generates so many gains is a good lesson for all of us.
