Check out Jeff Jarvis and Arianna Huffington as they do their video thing on Buzzmachine.com, Jeff’s blog, to get a sense of the culture at Davos. They talk about Bill and Melinda Gates, Hilary Clinton, John Chambers, Senator McCain, Chad Hurley (founder of YouTube) and others.
Arianna and Jeff, of course, are big into politics and how blogging will effect the political process. Jeff pointed out that Hilary went to Yahoo Answers to open a conversation about health insurance and got 37,000 responses right away.
If you’re not linked to Arianna’s blog yet, you might want to get there if you want an inside the ballpark look at national politics. I was sitting right next to Arianna Sunday morning in Davos when she had a powerful exchange with Senator McCain who was seated about five feet away. Her description of the event is accurate. Even the conservatives in the room thought McCain overreacted to Ariann’s prodding.
I would add two things. Arianna did interrupt the Senator during the media briefing and I couldn’t tell whether he got so angry because it was Arianna interrupting him or because he wasn’t used to anyone interrupting him. Arianna told me that she and McCain go way back in politics and have lots of history. So maybe there was history in that exchange.
