Case Studies in the Value of Design for Business.

One of the quiet secrets about the the spread of design culture into business culture is the role that a alliance between the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week has played over the past decade and a half. BW began sponsoring the annual awards given by the IDSA back in the early 90’s and spread the word to the business community of the bottom line power of design. One of the things I’m most proud of is getting BW, the preeminent global business magazine, to back design. At the time, it wasn’t easy.

So I was rummaging through the IDSA site this morning waiting for a call (don’t we all do that kind of thing?) and came across this wonderful list of stories showing the value of design to business. Most of them are not from BW—or IN—so I’m not being too self-reverential here when I say that these articles are really, really insightful. Take a look. And give thanks to this small professional organization for being in the forefront of building a new innovation culture.
