iTunes Carries Innovation from Stanford U.

I don’t know the folks at in/teresting in/sights but they put me on to this great idea from Stanford—placing tons of material on innovation generated at the University on the Apple iTunes store. It’s not exactly on the site—you first have to go to to link in. But once in, you can download to your computer and iPod. Neat idea. Why didn’t you think of this first Harvard or Wharton?

You can find lectures by professors and visiting scholars, course work, and, surprise music. I haven’t checked it out yet but let me know what you think.

Great moves by both Stanford and Apple. It’s innovative.

Hi Bruce,

I didn't even have to explore beyond the splash page for Stanford on iTunes to know that this was a fantastic idea.I am a current graduate student in business and graphic design at RIT and will be making a recommendation to my university to pursue this, as it provides students with access to a wealth of knowledge. Bravo Stanford!

Why go through iTunes instead of just putting podcasts up for download? And how is this more innovative than MIT's OpenCourseWare... with audio and video?

(btw, the MIT stuff is awesome)

Interesting idea. The amount of actual material on design and innovation seems to be slim to none, though. Also, you can only get to the Stanford iTunes store via the special back door URL, not by searching or browsing iTunes (where many, many other academic units have created podcasts, btw). I wonder why they went that route?
