So within minutes of landing in Beijing for the Design for the New China Markets conference—and plugging into the web—I see that the city of Shenzen is turning itself into a “City of Design” with a new design college and a design training center. I saw the item through IDSA’s Design Bytes, always a terrific source of information (IDSA is a co-sponsor of this conference).
“Designs in different categories should be another driving force following the high-tech industry for the city’s innovation capability growth,” said Wang Jingsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, at the inauguration of the 2005 Shenzhen Design Forum yesterday. So who knew there was yet another design conference in China?
Tomorrow night I meet with 30 business people and designers to kick off the start of Institute of Design’s conference. Much to learn.
