Forget The Visuals Of Padma Lakshmi's Carl's Jr. Ad--Or Try To--And Ask Youself This Question

Posted by: Jon Fine on April 14, 2009

As you’ve probably heard, Carl’s Jr. just did another stunt ad. This one features extraordinarily attractive (and, in this case, scantily-clad) author and Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi enjoying some quality time with their heart-attack-inducing Western Bacon Six Dollar burger.

The extended remix:

Seriously now: Lakshmi—whose entire cred is based on being extremely knowledgeable and serious about food—is doing a fast food commercial?

Does this strike anyone else as being kind of (jargon alert) off-brand? As such, isn’t it kind of a stupid move?

In case you’re keeping score at home, reports Carl’s Jr’s Western Bacon Six Dollar Chest-Clutching Cardiac Event contains 57 grams of fat (87.7% of the recommended daily allowance) 26 grams of saturated fat (over 100% of the recommended daily allowance), and clocks in at 960 calories. Though as far as I know, it has not showed up at, yet.

Also: “more than just a piece of meat?” Nice. [severe coughing]

If you were looking up the definition for food porn, this would be it. Airs in some markets as a Hardee's ad, btw.

uh...i think you are missing the point.
sorry, i was distracted. what was the point?

unbelievably a bad move. she must be desperate for money. ? or attention... too bad, i enjoyed seeing a beautiful women with intelligence and morals give you just a little bit. this new commercial promotes nothing but gluttony, greed, indulgence and sex. how sad for her to throw away her career with both hands holding a hamburger. and didn't she say she enjoyed healthy food? lol she really made a fool of herself.

April 21, 2009 2:18 AM

Let her mess up her career. We'd all rather see Tom Colicchio run the ENTIRE show anyway. Screw her and her so-called "knowledge".

And, p.s. I don't think she'd be found anywhere near the definition of a person of 'morals'.

April 21, 2009 7:17 PM

Is THIS why she got a boob job? *rolls eyes*

Can we say "BIMBO"?

April 22, 2009 3:31 AM

Last time I checked, Padma wasn't doing Top Chef or writing cookbooks (or modeling for that matter) for free. So why would this be considered selling out? Hey, we're all talking about it, and it makes me want to eat a burger!
