More On The Publicity Value Of The Unscripted Comment

Last week, a friend wrote in about the whole Bush-Blair open-mike to-do. He was convinced that it was not an accident that mike happened to be live. No, he said. It was a carefully planned p.r. move.
Today he writes again, this time about [not even going to bother linking] Mel Gibson’s drunken, anti-semitic tirade:
In my considered judgment, it’s possible that Mel Gibson did not do it for the publicity.
Unlike last time, this time I think he’s right!
