The Whole Star Jones Thing

Posted by: Jon Fine on June 28, 2006

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but how weird is it seeing this clip of Barbara Walters getting all Tony Soprano—by daytime TV standards, at least—on Star Jones Reynolds?

And this rebuttal?

Truth is, we have spent very little time thinking about The View and Star Jones Reynolds, like, ever.

Except for this: At one media event a couple of years back, we ended up seated at a table with the then-Ms. Jones. She showed up slightly late, sat down with an air of majesty, and waited in a fairly obvious way for her chattering tablemates to take notice and make a fuss over her.

Thing is: none did, at least not right away.

We saw all this transpire, and it would have been so easy for us to at least, you know, strike up a conversation, and pay attention to a semi-celebrity who was clearly begging to be recognized.

But it was much more entertaining to not do so.

What was the point to this blog post?

You work for Business Week. Have you forgot this? Or, has BW lowered itself to this level.

Yes, you do cover the media and Star Whoever may be in the media or just outside of the mainstream media, but that's not the point.

You work for Business Week and the best you give your readers is a pointless attack on another human being.

Try harder.
