Brigham Exploration (BEXP)

Brigham Exploration is on a high-tech treasure hunt for black gold. Using 3-D seismic imaging, the Austin (Tex.)-based oil and gas exploration and production company struck it rich in 2005, scoring record revenues of nearly $97 million. Contributing to its success were strong commodity prices, growth in production, and effective cost control. Over the past three years, the company's annual average profits have risen 110%. And with lucrative reserves spanning Texas and western Oklahoma, the money pool isn't about to dry up, either. Through a joint venture with Penn Virginia, Brigham Exploration is developing at least three new wells in southern Louisiana.

Executive Bio

Ben M. "Bud" Brigham has been the CEO, president, and chairman of the board of Brigham Exploration since its founding in 1990. From 1984 to 1990, Brigham served as an exploration geophysicist with Rosewood Resources, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company. Brigham began his career as a seismic data processing geophysicist for Western Geophysical, a provider of 3-D seismic services, after earning his BS in geophysics from the University of Texas. Brigham is the husband of Anne Brigham, director, and the brother of David Brigham, executive vice-president.
