Lavishing older women with fashionable outfits that are also functional and age appropriate continues to ring up the profits for Coldwater Creek. The clothing and housewares retailer said profits in the fiscal year that ended Jan. 28 surged 61% to $46.8 million from $29.1 million the year before. In fiscal 2002, the company earned just $1.8 million. The Sand Point (Idaho) retailer, co-founded by Chairman and CEO Dennis Pence in 1984 as a cataloguer, says its multichannel marketing strategy which includes the Internet and aggressive brick-and-mortar expansion was also responsible for revenue climbing 33.5% last year to $788.2 million from $590.3 million. The stock, which hovers in the upper 20s, has ballooned nearly 150% over the past year, as investors gravitate to a retailer that caters to older women who have money to spend.
