Blogspotting: Tokyo Art Site Goes to NYC

Posted by: Kenji Hall on June 13, 2008

Rarely do I plug Web sites but I want to tip my hat to one: Tokyo Art Beat. This bilingual site is, in my opinion, the definitive, easy-to-use guide to the art and design scenes in Tokyo. Normally, I don’t reveal my sources, but this Web site was a key resource for a story I wrote a couple of months ago about Tokyo’s new art fair.

Now, TAB’s founders—a Japanese national and two Frenchmen—are taking on the Big Apple. In late April, they launched NY Art Beat. According to Google Analytics, Tokyo Art Beat has 700,000 page views and 200,000 visits a month. That’s not bad; NY Art Beat’s numbers are still a fraction of those numbers. But they’ll soon be adding code to let other Web sites create mashups and more interesting links that could drive traffic.

Tokyo Art Beat is the best. Hopefully they can take over NYC too!
