Saudis to be Modest Sovereign Wealth Players

Posted by: Stanley Reed on February 04

Don’t expect Saudi Arabia to be a big player in the Sovereign Wealth Fund space. That was the message from a senior Saudi financial official I encountered recently. He said Saudi Arabia was considering a modest fund of around $6 billion. He also said that the controversy brewing over Sovereign Wealth Funds in the West might cause the Kingdom to reconsider even that plan.
He also said that unlike the small Gulf oil and gas producers such as Qatar and Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia is a big country with huge demands on its budget for roads, universities, hospitals and other needs.
