End of an Era in Browsers
Market researcher Zona Research says that when it started monitoring Web browsers four years ago, nine companies were battling for a slice of the $200 million market. Today, Microsoft and Netscape dominate a market that has no direct dollar value because the software is given away. Here's how they stack up:
| % of respondents in a survey of 236 companies:
|
| Use Microsoft's Internet Explorer as the primary browser | 64% |
| Use Netscape Navigator as the primary browser | 36% |
| Have a corporate browser policy | 73% |
| Specify Internet Explorer as the approved browser | 69% |
| Specify Navigator as the approved browser | 31% |
