Market Makers Come on Strong
Business-to-business e-commerce is booming. In a recent report, market researcher Dataquest predicted that a new breed of what it calls "e-market makers" will transform how business gets done in a host of industries. These are portals that facilitate business-to-business commerce. They are simplifying the supply chain in various industries, introducing new efficiencies and coming up with new ways of buying goods. Some of these companies are "vertical" e-market makers that focus on one industry, such as VerticalNet's Pollution Online. Others are "horizontal" e-market makers that automate a category such as human resources or advertising. In interviews with 40 e-market makers and experts, Dataquest uncovered the largest of them to date.
