Online Shopping Drops
Is cybershopping finally coming down to earth? For the first time, E-commerce activity fell in the most recent quarter, according to a recent survey of 2,598 online consumers. Web purchasing fell about three percentage points, to 71% of respondents, and online shopping declined three points to 83%. Most likely, the reason is that online shopping has grown large enough to be affected by seasonal changes: The March quarter results included post-Christmas buying, while the second quarter had no holidays to drive higher purchases. But this may be a momentary pause: Some 95% of respondents say they plan to buy the same amount or more in the future.
