Doctors Are Finally Getting Online
Longtime online laggards, physicians are using the Internet as never before. The percentage of doctors using the Net soared to 85% in early May, up from just 7% in late 1996. Now nearly half of all doctors have a Web site, or plan to open one this year, compared with virtually none two years ago.

How doctors use the Net:
E-mail and personal use 74%
Medical reference 60%
Research 33%
Clinical access (communication with labs or hospital) 20%
Reading online journals 19%
Reading Web sites related to their specialty 16%
Continuing medical education 8%
