Japan Gets the E-Commerce Bug
When it comes to electronic commerce, Japan has lagged far behind the U.S. But it's starting to catch up. In the next three years, E-commerce is expected to grow into a $130 billion business, making up 1% of all domestic commercial transactions. In the 2004-2009 period, it is expected to reach about $460 billion, emerging as the main form of commercial transaction.

E-commerce in Japan in 3-5 years: $129 billion
Business-to-consumer: $9 billion
Business-to-business: $120 billion
Of the business-to-business total:
   Manufacturing industries will account for: $35 billion
   Non-manufacturing will account for: $85 billion
E-commerce in Japan in 5-10 years: $457 billion
Business-to-consumer: $30 billion
Business-to-business: $427 billion
Of the business-to-business total:
   Manufacturing industries will account for: $67 billion
   Non-manufacturing will account for: $360 billion
