Corporate America Will Double Internet Spending

Whether it's building a Web site for promotional information, selling goods and services online, or integrating the Internet into core business practices, Corporate America will be ramping up e-activities in the next few years. A new study from Jupiter Communications predicts that by 2003, U.S. companies will more than double the amount spent on Internet-based infrastructure (hardware, software, systems integration) and related business operations and maintenance over the level spent in 1999. The greatest growth will be in operations and maintenance.

Spending (in billions)

  Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance

1999 $56 $97

2000 $66 $138

2001 $77 $175

2002 $83 $216

2003 $89 $259
