Online Grocery Sales Will Skyrocket

U.S. online grocery spending will soar in the next five years, but supermarkets needn't worry too much about dot-coms eating their lunch. Internet sales of groceries will grow to $8.8 billion in 2004 from less than $200 million in 1999 -- roughly doubling every year -- says researcher International Data Corp. But even after such phenomenal growth, in 2004 online sales will represent less than 2% of the total U.S. grocery market.
