Vroom!

Online car shopping is accelerating steadily, though the vast majority of Americans still like to kick the tires. According to a new study by Polk Co., a consumer marketing information company in Southfield, Mich., the percentage of people using the Internet to shop for new vehicles grew to 34.1%, from 26.9% in 1998. The data also show a lot of variation in Net car shopping around the country. Washington, D.C., leads in people using the Net to shop for cars, while Los Angeles is ahead in the number of those actually buying through Net sites -- more than double the national average.
