Consumer Internet use in Japan is booming, thanks largely to a dramatic jump in demand for home PCs and Net-ready cell phones. PC sales last year rose by 85%, boosting the penetration rate to 28.5% of all Japanese homes. Meanwhile, more than 6 million people subscribe to mobile Internet services. According to IDC Japan, a division of market researcher International Data Corp., Japanese consumers will be making more purchases online.
