Double Vision?
More adults are watching TV and simultaneously surfing the Web, according to a new survey of 1,000 Web users last month by market researcher Dataquest, a unit of Gartner Group. These so-called tele-webbers aren't watching both screens simultaneously, but are using the TV for background noise while Web surfing, says Sujata Ramnarayan, senior industry analyst for Dataquest. The survey also says:

The number of tele-webbers rose from 8 million adults in 1998 to 27 million adults last year

82% of tele-webbers have the TV on as background noise at least once a week

40% of tele-webbers are interacting with the TV show's related Web site at least once a week
