Tiger Woods: Finally, He Shows His Stripes

Posted by: Patricia O'Connell on February 19, 2010

Good for Tiger Woods for including his sponsors (including former ones), his foundation, and his employees in his much-anticipated apology.

An abject, ashamed-looking Tiger Woods finally spoke out publicly about—and admitted to—his infidelities and the seismic fallout. He admitted to getting therapy, said that he has merely begun the process of becoming a better person and a better man, and yes, he said the magic words, “I’m sorry.” (Actually he said, “I’m deeply sorry.”)

While I absolutely think Tiger mismanaged this situation early on by not addressing it sooner, he gets points for realizing that as a public figure, an ambassador for the sport of golf, and as a corporate spokesperson, he owed an apology to all constituencies. He drew a line in the sand between the public and the private selves while doing justice to both. Look, I’m not a golfer, or a particular fan of the sport. I’m not Tiger’s target audience for most of the stuff he pitches (or pitched). But that said, I am now rooting for him.

F. Scott Fitzgerald famously said “There are no second acts in American lives.” That’s certainly been proven false numerous times, in many public arenas: sports, business, entertainment. I hope Tiger writes one of those chapters now.

His Dr. got busted for HGH and steroids recently. Tiger is just another HGH fraud trying to trash the record of a clean athlete - Jack Nicklaus.

Tiger is a great golfer.but all that money and fame ,look what is does to a person. What would his dad think of him now? We all need money to live on but it will not always bring happieness. He,s just a loser.Just like a lot of movie stars.Drugs, all kinds of money.Where is GOD in ther life?????

Okay, we have a golfer, supposedly the greatest ever, who curses on the course while beng watched by millions, throws clubs if his shot is ever so off, has a caddy who yells at his fans if they dont move quickly enough and an agent who dictates access. This guy is an out and out fraud image wise. If golf is so dependent on this pampered jerk, golf has bigger problems than Tiger. I can't wait to see the reception this womanizing primaddona crybaby gets the next time the US open takes place on Long Island! Oh yeah, and I'll never buy a product he endorses, EVER. Hopefully many others will do the same. Hooray for Tom Watson, who had the guts to say the right thing.

Why does anyone care? These affairs are between Tiger, his wife and his mistresses. I really didn't care what Clinton was doing in the Oval Office as long as it didn't affect how he did his job. What Larry Craig does in airport bathrooms is his business, not ours. How would you like it if your career was determined by your personal relationships?

I am glad that Tiger Woods broke his silence. After listening to Tiger I feel positive that he is going in the right direction to get his derailed life back on the right track. I think that in each one of us there is a divine power that can be used to help us overcome any obstacle and adversity. I am encouraged that Tiger mentioned he is using his inner strength to regain balance in his life to save the two things that are most important to him, his wife and his children. Tiger said that Elin deserves praise and I wholeheartedly agreed. I hope and pray that one day Elin find room in her heart to believe in him again. God Bless!

Tiger Woods gave an impressive, scripted
performance I am convinced that his story was concocted by business associates and public relations specialists to get the profits flowing again. It's all about Money, Money, Money. I will never patronize a company that promotes a liar and cheater.

Tiger Woods lied and cheated.I do not believe his scripted and rehearsed performance. Business interests and public relations
want the money flowing again. It's all about Money, Money, Money. I will never
patronize a company that sponsors him.

A guy with puffy cheeks becomes world famous and gets billions for hitting a small ball with a stick round a patch of grass (all be it he does very well), cheats on his wife and family by pouncing on any breathing thing in a skirt, continuously lies about the importance of and his devotion to his family before he gets found out, and then, after he gets caught out, he issues a scripted grovelling nonsense of an apology in which he spends just as much time pleading with his sponsors as his family and yet we have people "rooting for him", lol. Gotta love the gullibility and the endless fascination of some folks with the worthless celebrity culture.

Good for Tiger,to own up is a big step. As to buying products endorsed by a cheat and a liar. What would happen if all our own personal skeletons stopped us from making a living. In the words of J.C.,let he without sin cast the first stone.

Why is this in the business news section. This should be on TMZ...not business week. Who cares about this womanizer?...surely not Me!

This is not business related...this belongs on page 6 of the NY Post

He gets paid to play golf people. I don't care if he cheats on his wife everyday. Maybe she joins Tiger and gets involved with some of these women too. Who cares, He's still great at golf.

If any joe schmoe off the street cheated on his wife none of us would give any care what so ever. why should it eb any different for a celebrity. what he does off the course and off camera is his business and thats where it should be left. and if you do care get a life because who watches golf and or cares about what they do in their spare time. and HI back to you too Michael Robinson!

The man's life is his own. If our professional careers were based upon our personal lives and relationships almost everyone would be out of the job. Toyota making faulty vehicles that could kill innocent civilians dictates an apology, not a golfer cheating on his wife.

With exception of last 4-5 postings before my post, it seems that you all are jealous of what tiger did outside golfcourse. Why you care so much on this topic? He is a golfer and not god. Secondly, if a man cheats his wife, only man is to be blamed 80%, you can clap only by two hands together. Here You'll are ranting as if he cheated your partners too. Guys, get a life.

Heard that story from Bible? I am not Christian but I sure have heard this story. Only he will throw the stone at the lady who has not commited even one sin in life....
Let's be honest in our hearts, how many of us have not desired, dreamt or even thought of having an intimate relation out side marriage? Most of us do, some are wise not to act, and some like tiger succumb to basic male insticts.

For those who think Tiger Woods personal life is no ones business, but his own, they are right in one sense.
However, when he crashes a car at 2 am in the morning and then woman after woman comes out about his sexual exploits, it's no longer a private matter. There has been no athlete since Mohammad Ali who has the worldwide attraction that Woods had. Plus there is no athlete who has the type and depth of corporate sponsorship endorsement that he has had.
I question the sincerity of his apology. There is no question it was carefully crafted. There is no question that he will stifle any type of questions regarding his past behavior.
As a top golfer I am sure he will return to form. It will take him a lot longer to gain the respect and adoration he had before.

Tiger's public apology matters because we are collectively stupid enough to allow product endorsement by celebrities to influence our buying habit.

Tiger apologized to everyone but the women he seduced anad lied to to get what he wanted. He referred to them as 'Temptation'.

PLEASE give me a break. Frankly if theze women looked like Susan Boyle he would not have blamed them for his own uncontrolled lust.

He couldn't even say I'm sorry I lied to you many women, I went after you. Iknew I was married and had a responsibility to keep the rooster in the coup and not under any circumstance let it get out either. Certainly I should have not gone back again and again to fine tune my skill as taking aka seducing the girls with 'Tiger Woods' everything.'

Say you're sorry Tiger, or are they the disposable whores or toilets you took a dump in? I think not...they are daughters and sisiters and mothers of people who love them too. The fathers and mothers and sisters and brothers of the universe realize that your shame will last forever until you ask those 'temptaions' to forgive you.

Tiger should have apologized within 48 hours or so, rather than after such a long period of time, during which his public relations advisers were busy working on a script. Tiger's apology was not sincere or heartfelt and he should not have made any excuses e.g. his medical condition.

Coming up with a scripted apology is inadequate and unacceptable, but everyone makes mistakes and needs to be forgiven from time to time. Let's hope Tiger focuses on improving and let's hope we can give him and his family some time to rebuild.

Tiger doesn't owe us an apology; He owes his wife an apology. What he did was unacceptable and he needs to deal with his own demons.

We all have skeletons in our closet and done things probably just as bad as he has. But we need to let him get his issues in order and get back to golf.

That's where I want to see him.
