Today we are taking another look at the faces behind the scenes at Business Exchange. Maki Yamasaki, our community moderation specialist, has one of the most important jobs on BX — she responds to all of the feedback we receive from users and moderates user comments and contributions.
Maki took some time to give us a peek into her world.
Describe what you do at BusinessWeek.
I take care of all the feedback that we receive on BX. We take feedback serious at BX. I reply to each of user and categorize the feedback to pass along to the proper BX stakeholders for consideration. I also review reported articles, make sure the content in the topics is relevant, add valuable articles and lots of more.
Of course, as a moderator, chasing spammers is part of my work, too (Mhahaha!).
What interests you most in the work you do on Business Exchange?
My duties for Business Exchange interest me in so many ways, because they cover many of the important features of my background: Library Science. First of all, I get to help disseminate valuable information to people who are seeking it in a timely manner. This is what BX does and what librarians are passionate about.
Secondly, I love to help people use the application so that they can find information themselves. When I see that a user begins to actively contribute to the site after contacting me, I am SO happy.
There are third, fourth, and more reasons, but overall, BX is such a unique social networking site with so many different and new features and technologies. Also, the people on our team are GREAT! Who wouldn’t be interested in working here?
What is the most unusual feedback you’ve ever received?
Believe or not, it’s not about Business Exchange. It’s about Facebook. When people have problems with their Facebook accounts, they come to us… How and why? Who knows! But I’m happy to help where I can.
What are your favorite BX topics?
I go over hundreds topics in a day as a moderator, and it’s hard to stick to only a few topics. If I had to pick, I’d personally want to contribute more to the topics on McGraw-Hill and Japan’s Economy. Oh, I learn a lot from Semantic Web, too. Somebody needs to stop me here, otherwise my favorite topic list will keep going on and on and on…
