CLINTON'S TOBACCO REVIEW TEAM

As the tobacco industry reaches the eleventh hour in its settlement negotiations with state attorneys general and plaintiffs lawyers, the White House stands ready to comb through any agreement that might result. Meet the Tobacco SWAT team.

White House aide Bruce Lindsey has pulled together a group of Administration officials to closely examine any deal, especially for its impact on public health. Team members include Lindsey, White House aide Bruce Reed, Vice President Gore's counsel Charles Burson, Gore technology advisor Don Gips, Health & Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and Deputy Secretary Kevin Thurm, and Food & Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner William Schultz.
