McKesson
MCKESSON, THE world’s biggest drug distributor, came up with a cure for a splitting legal headache last year. A $960 million settlement ended a suit stemming from a massive 1999 earnings restatement that contributed to the San Francisco company’s ending in the red in fiscal 2001. Now, McKesson’s focus is squarely back on distributing medicines to pharmacies and hospitals. That’s sweet relief, as growth in generic drug sales has bolstered margins in this notoriously lowmargin business. Also helping get McKesson back in the black: sales of its new, higher-margin healthcare management software.
