Larry C. Glasscock has been President and Chief Executive Officer of WellPoint Inc. (Formerly Anthem Inc.), the publicly held parent of Anthem Insurance Companies, Inc. (Anthem Insurance), since May 2001 and WellPoint's chairman since November 2005. Mr. Glasscock joined Anthem Insurance in April 1998 as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and served until 1999. Mr. Glasscock has guided Anthem through a period of tremendous growth, including the merger of Anthem, Inc. and WellPoint Health Networks Inc. and the Anthem acquisitions of Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in New Hampshire, Maine, Colorado/Nevada, and Virginia. At the same time, Mr. Glasscock has championed the company’s efforts to improve quality and customer service, which have been recognized by accreditation organizations, regulatory and ratings agencies, and Anthem customers across the country. Prior to joining Anthem Insurance, Mr. Glasscock served as Chief Operating Officer of CareFirst, Inc. from January 1998 to April 1998. Mr. Glasscock was President and Chief Executive Officer of Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc., which did business as Blue Cross Blue Shield of the National Capital Area, from 1993 to January 1998 and oversaw its affiliation with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maryland. He became Chief Operating Officer of the holding company (CareFirst, Inc.) of the Blue plans after their affiliation and was responsible for operation and integration of the two companies. He served as President of the CSU Alumni Association. From 1991 to 1993, he served as President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of First American Bank, N.A. where he played a major role in the redirection of the company and its financial turn around. During 1991, Mr. Glasscock was President and Chief Executive Officer of Essex Holdings, Inc. (an Ohio-based capital investment firm). He also held various Executive positions during his twenty-year tenure with Ameritrust Corporation, a Cleveland, Ohio bank holding company. He served as Chairman of Anthem Inc., from May 12, 2003 to November 30, 2004 and has been its Director since 2001. In addition, Mr. Glasscock, with the Anthem Board of Directors and senior management, took the company public in 2001. At that time for the New York Stock Exchange, the Anthem IPO was the largest in the health insurance industry, the 23rd largest on Wall Street, and the largest by an Indiana company. He has been a Director of Anthem Insurance since 1999. Mr. Glasscock has been a Director of Zimmer Holdings Inc. since 2001 and is the Chairman of Audit Committee, Member of Corporate Governance and Compensation Committees. Mr. Glasscock serves as a Director on the following Boards: Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, BCS Financial Services Corporation, Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH), National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM), Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) and the Indiana Health Industry Forum (IHIF). In addition, he serves on the board of directors of United Way of Central Indiana and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC). In addition, he studied at the School of International Banking and has participated in the American Bankers Association Conference of Executive Officers. He also completed the Commercial Bank Management Program at Columbia University. Mr. Glasscock earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Cleveland State University.
