J. Larry Nichols J. Larry Nichols has been Chief Executive Officer of Devon Energy Corporation (a public U.S. oil and gas exploration and production company listed on the American Stock Exchange) since 1980 and Chairman since 2000. Mr. Nichols served as President of Devon Energy Corporation from 1976 to 2003. Mr. Nichols co-founded Devon in 1971. He served as law clerk to Mr. Chief Justice Earl Warren and Mr. Justice Tom Clark of the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a Director of Devon Energy Corp. since 1971, Baker Hughes Inc. since 2001 and Smedvig ASA (an independent energy company) since 1996. He served as a Director of BOK Financial Corp. since 1997. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the American Stock Exchange. Mr. Nichols serves as a Director of the Domestic Petroleum Council, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Natural Gas Supply Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico, the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and the National Petroleum Council. Mr. Nichols serves as a Director of several trade associations that are relevant to the conduct of Devon's business. Mr. Nichols holds a geology degree from Princeton University and a law degree from the University of Michigan.
