John D. Finnegan has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Chubb Corp. since December 2002 and Chairman of the Board since December 4, 2003. While serving as President and Chairman of GMAC, he also served as GM's interim chief financial officer in 2000. Mr. Finnegan previously served as Executive Vice President of General Motors Corporation, which is primarily engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of automotive vehicles, and Chairman and President of General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), a finance company and subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, from May 1999 to December 2002. Mr. Finnegan was responsible for GMAC's activities worldwide, including the company's automobile finance, insurance, commercial finance and mortgage operations. He was Vice President and Group Executive of General Motors and also President of General Motors Acceptance Corporation from November 1997 to April 1999. Mr. Finnegan was associated with General Motors from 1976 to December 2002. In 1976, Mr. Finnegan joined GMAC's tax staff in New York. In 1977, he transferred to GM as an analyst in the company's New York Treasurer's Office. He was promoted in 1981 to director of International Banking. In 1985, he transferred to GMAC's headquarters in Detroit as Director of Strategic Planning. He was also president and chairman of the GMAC Mortgage Group board of directors and a Director of GMAC Insurance Operations. Mr. Finnegan has been a Director of Chubb Corp. since 2002. Mr. Finnegan has been a Director of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. since June 1, 2004 and a member of the Business Council, The Business Roundtable and the Financial Services Roundtable. Mr. Finnegan was member of the Management Development and Compensation Committee of the board. Mr. Finnegan graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1971. He received a law degree from Fordham Law School in 1975 and a masters in business administration from Rutgers University in 1976.
