Bobby S. Shackouls has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Resources Inc., a natural resources business, since December 1995 and Chairman of the Board since July 1997. He joined the company in 1993 as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Meridian Oil Inc., the company's exploration and production subsidiary, now known as Burlington Resources Oil & Gas LP. He was named president and chief executive officer of Burlington Resources Oil and Gas Co. in 1994. He became president and chief executive officer of Burlington Resources Inc. as well as a board member in 1995, and was named to his present position in 1997. Previously, Shackouls had served Torch Energy Advisors as president and chief operating officer, and held executive positions at Houston Oil & Minerals and Plains Resources. He began his career in 1972 with Exxon. Shackouls is the current chairman of the National Petroleum Council and a member of the Domestic Petroleum Council. He serves on the executive committees of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association and the American Petroleum Institute, where he currently serves as treasurer. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and serves on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America, the Texas Heart Institute and the Mississippi State University Foundation. He has been a Director of Burlington Resources Inc. since December 1995. He has been a Director of Kroger Co. since 1999 and is the Vice Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Compensation Committee. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
