Kenneth Lewis Kenneth D. Lewis has been Chief Executive Officer for Bank of America Corp. since April 2001, President since July 2004 and Chairman of the Board since February 2005. Mr. Lewis also serves as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Bank of America, N.A. Mr. Lewis served as Chairman of Bank of America Corp. from April 2001 to April 2004. He served as President for Bank of America Corp. from January 1999 to April 2004 and served as Chief Operating Officer from October 1999 to April 2001. He served as President, Consumer and Commercial Banking for Bank of America Corp. from October 1998 to January 1999 and previously served as President from October 1993 to October 1998. He served as Chairman and President of Bank of America, N.A. Mr. Lewis served as President of NationsBank Corporation, a position that he had held since November 1993 until 1998. From October 1999 until April 2001, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Health Management Associates Inc. From December 1991 to November 1993, he served as President of General Banking for NationsBank. Prior to that, Mr. Lewis had been employed by NCNB Corporation (predecessor to NationsBank and Bank of America) in various capacities since 1969, including President of NCNB Texas from 1988 to 1990 and President of NCNB National Bank of Florida from 1986 to 1988. He has been a Director of Bank of America Corp. since 1999 and serves as a Member of the Executive Committee. He served as a Director of Health Management Associates Inc. since 1991. He served as a Director of Lowe's Companies Inc. since 2000 until his resignation in 2003 and was a Member of Compensation, Organization and Governance Committees. Lewis is a member of the Financial Services Roundtable; a member of the board and the executive committee and past chairman of the United Way of Central Carolinas, Inc.; a member of the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy; and a director of Homeownership Education and Counseling Institute. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Georgia State University. He is a graduate of the Executive Program at Stanford University.
