Students in the business program consistently have a much heavier workload than many other students at Boston College, aside from pre-med students.

When I came to Boston College, I did not realize how intense the business program would be. All of my classes were challenging, but definitely beneficial. The management school provides students with a business core and then allows them to take classes specific to their major. The professors are also extremely helpful and willing to talk to students in and out of class. There are relatively no BC management courses taught by TAs, so each student is getting the most out of his tuition money.

The only area of the business school that I feel could improve is the number and diversity of upper-level electives. Because the finance concentration only requires one elective, I don’t think BC feels it has to offer more. I think more electives should be offered and required of undergrads.

Boston College is most known for being a liberal arts school with Jesuit ideals and principles. Because of this, I believe that undergraduate students in the business program graduate with an extremely well-rounded education. We learn the skills necessary for the business world, but in addition, I believe that business students here graduate with a better sense of the greater world and how to use practical skills to truly impact society.

I felt largely unchallenged in my classes, and although the material at an introductory level is rather fact-based, the teachers really didn't expect genuine thinking about problems. Instead, tests were designed for the student to regurgitate learned definitions and formulas.

One main detraction from my experience has been the apathy toward the average student in terms of finding a job. The top students are helped, but the student with the decent GPA is sort of left [alone] in the recruiting process.

The Carroll School is a very tight-knit group. The honors students mostly take classes together, but the non-honors students are most likely familiar with each other as well. I would say that the Carroll School has the envy of most non-Carroll School students on campus.
