Since we are at an engineering school, we have the technological side of things too. WPI focuses on group projects, and I feel like I have done more group work than any other business student, which I have found employers really are impressed by that.
WPI's business program is extremely teamwork oriented and allows you to gain experience working on a team to accomplish a task. In addition, the project based focus of the school allows undergraduates to gain practical experience.
I would like the school's business program to be a little harder in terms of difficulty. While the work is valuable and professors use proven methods of learning such as business cases to teach, professors should expect students to put more effort in on average. While projects keep students from coasting by, some of the exams and assignments are not held to the high standards that would benefit the student body.
WPI's project experiences (especially MQP) offer an opportunity to perform a real project for a company. I am currently doing my MQP with Communispace that involves sitting on meetings with execs and the project team, taking their vision, and turning it into an actual result. In this case, we are designing a vendor performance management system, something very needed for the company. No other school has the opportunities that WPI offers for getting real world experience.
(We need) better academic advising. I needed to go to the assistant dean to get clarification on my degree evaluation because my advisors were not helpful.
With our school being on the term system like the rest of our campus, the students are well aware of the fast-paced system of industry. We become easily adaptable as our course load changes every 7 weeks. We can plan and execute projects efficiently in minimal amounts of time.
The math Professors could be improved. Although they are not directly within the business program, they are part of the major requirements.
It's an engineering program that is part of WPI School of Business. We get the best of both sides: outstanding technical and engineering background together with the necessary business skills to succeed in the professional environment.
