Butler has a very strong career and professional development program for business students. Each business student is given sufficient support to acquire internship experiences, which develops stronger candidates in the workplace. Academic performance is also vital. Therefore, our small classes makes it possible for professors to give each student attention and meet during office hours when needed.
At this point, the school is great. Students are not placed into internship positions, but given the necessary skills to find an internship, much like a job. Because we have to complete two internships, I think the program would be stronger if the internship coordinators helped a little more with placing students into their first internship. I understand that it is a real life experience, but I think it would be good to see exactly how it is done in a searching process to be guided by the professionals.
The curriculum is based on real-life, real business, and I believe they really accomplish teaching this. Through aspects such as having many professors who were former industry professionals, and forcing us to interact early with the business world they really help to build a great foundation of actual business knowledge that will be very applicable once in the real world.
Some classes such as operations management and business statistics could be improved so that students retain the information rather than memorizing it for the exam.
Butler makes sure we are prepared for the future. The school is unique in that professors are seen as teachers and friends.
I think the program should offer a more variety of majors. For example, I am a marketing major but only chose marketing because they did not have a management degree. I have had trouble finding internships due to only "marketing" opportunities being advertised through Butler, which isn't necessarily what all marketing majors are looking to pursue in a career.
Academic and Career Advisors assist you in planning for your future as a professional. The Real Business Experience Program allows students to run a real business. The business program also requires you to complete two internships before graduation.
I'd like to see more opportunities outside of Indianapolis. There and endless jobs and connections in the city but for those who would like to work elsewhere, they have to find the jobs themselves.
Business students must have two internships before graduation, everyone has to create and run a unique business with a group, and we have several resume and interview training workshops and experience.
I would like a bit more diversity among the staff. The international business program is very diverse with professors from different backgrounds culturally and professionally. Yet, some of the other subjects have professors that seem to forget that business is extremely global; therefore, we must practice and learn how to speak and perform in a global setting.
I feel as if the College of Business at Butler University is its own community. Most likely, you have the same colleagues in your classes and its a great feeling to have been able to work together throughout the years. I feel as if the students in the College of Business are by far the most prepared students at Butler University for graduation!!!!
This doesn't really pertain to the business program, but I wish there were less required core classes from the university in general. There are so many finance courses I'd love to take that'd better prepare me for my future career, but I just don't have the time to take everything!
The business program assigns everyone an academic advisor, career mentor, and an internship coordinator, who are very helpful for students and guide them through the business program.
The advisers need a lot of help. Some of the marketing courses need to be more challenging and the diversity of employers should extend beyond those located in Indianapolis.
I know almost the entire faculty from various College of Business events or because I have had a class with them. They are all down to earth and willing to help students in whatever way they can. They have all incorporated the COB's motto ""Real Life. Real Business."" into their curriculum which has been SO helpful as an intern and throughout my job search process.
