The general business curriculum at Bentley University is what sets the school apart. Students are required to take a number of different courses in all different areas of business. These courses ultimately culminate in a class, which brings all of these concepts, tools, and areas together to write complete business plan for a small business in the area.
In New England, Bentley is a well-known business school. However, this can't be said the same in the national level, and I think Bentley recognizes this and is trying to raise their national reputation. Until then, the Bentley name is lost once you leave New England.
There is a great deal that Bentley University offers from the standpoint of career services. They really attempt to get everyone a job that suits each person and they spend the time and effort to accomplish that goal.
I believe that teamwork is stressed too much, causing the teams to work ineffectively. A strong team should be able to work effectively and get the job done better than any other team, but only a few classes stress how to work in a team.
Our school's business program gives students the option to take very challenging course subjects with highly achieved professors. Although the classes are challenging, they are nevertheless intriguing and very exciting. Our professors prepare and test us on material that is relevant in the "real world", not just equations from the textbook. This school has a strong focus on group work as well, which has really honed my teamwork skills.
While the strong concentration of business students makes for an effective and focused business program, I think the university could benefit from bolstering its liberal programs. Perhaps by attracting more artistic students to campus the university could benefit from greater creativity and perspective.
Unlike other business programs, Bentley University takes the time to teach each student about all of the different types of business environments. By educating every student with knowledge in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and International Studies helps to ensure that each student is well rounded when leaving Bentley's business program.
I think more majors could be offered in certain areas that are covered generally. We could have an international business major as well as an entrepreneurship major and marketing can be broken down with concentrations in certain areas such as advertising or sales.
Many of the professors here have a lot of industry experience and also know how to teach. It's rare that you find a university with that much balance. Usually it's either industry professionals who can't teach or teachers who don't have a lot of experience. Bentley offers both and that really helps students get prepared for post-graduate life.
The program has gone through some changes in the past few years, which have made classes harder. However, it has also allowed us to learn much more vital business information than the previous program. The only downside was that changes are still being made in order for the program to be perfected. The curriculum is vigorous and thorough, but it took a few years for the coordination of teachers and schedules to run smoothly.
Bentley's business core is very well rounded and you graduate with a strong background in almost every area of business.
The business program could try to make career services stronger and better by reaching out to more companies in the New York area who are looking to recruit Bentley students for jobs upon senior year graduation.
The trading room is a one-of-a-kind asset and an amazing opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with trading and financial software.
Our program would have been stronger if the professors were better teachers. There is no doubt that Bentley hires very educationally advanced professors however it would be more beneficial if Bentley took the time to realize which professors are actually suitable to convey information in a manner that students can not only understand but can also apply upon graduation.
Classes in most business schools above a certain threshold are all the same - what differentiates them in Bentley is the diversity of the student population. In an average class, I will have students from at least 10 different countries. This brings a whole new perspective to business and brings light to the globalization phenomenon.
