The Baylor University business program provides a solid foundation with a strong emphasis ethics and strong Christian principles, which drastically sets us apart from most schools.
Students would benefit from more guidance regarding internships. I don't even know what tools are available to me, and I'm a senior. More assistance in the search for an internship would be incredibly valuable.
Our business school does an outstanding job with helping students find internships and jobs. The staff's connections in related fields helps students get in touch with experienced professionals for career guidance.
Baylor must improve their use of technology. I actually had a professor who didn't know how to use email and some professors have given up trying to keep up with Blackboard. Baylor is so behind in this field in general. Laptops, phones, and tablets are sometimes banned from the classrooms. Baylor's attempts to bring students to technology by blogging and making websites in their business writing courses have failed. Mainly because the students know more about it than the teachers and the supplemental instructors that can help were rarely available.. I feel that in this area Baylor must step it up or it will get left behind.
The professors are always striving to engage their students in activities conducive to learning real business practices. With smaller class sizes, student participation is increased, meaning a better understanding for every individual student. Also, nearly every class taken in the Hankamer Business School requires public speaking, multimedia presentations, and group projects, all of which are very helpful to understanding the course material.
The business core is weak and needs to add value to students. The professors lecture the textbook and students could care less. There needs to be harder classes in order to lower overall GPAs and provide an even distribution of grades. Too many students make "easy A's" so I propose higher standards are put in place for future Baylor business school students. This will make the Baylor BBA more prestigious and sought after in the business world.
Baylor's professors are far more concerned with teaching and letting their students learn than they are with research or progressing their career. The smaller class sizes have allowed me to engage in highly productive classroom conversations that allow me to explore and expand upon my business views. Baylor business truly cares about the students and the lessons they learn from class.
As a minority, one of the things that always stood out to me was the small amount of minorities represented in the business school. I would of like to see more Hispanics within the school so you don't feel left out. I also think that some majors should get a little more funding to provide more social events to get to know the major.
In every class and by every professor, a certain ethical code is presented and integrated into the course. I believe the high ethical code that Baylor promotes is advantageous for students and future employers.
Some of the courses taken seemed disconnected at the freshman and sophomore level. Once I started taking junior and senior level classes, the concepts started to blend much more fluidly. This blending led to me understanding the concepts I was learning much quicker. If the program could implement this blending process sooner, I believe students in the program will be much more successful.
It's a small school with big traditions and our alumni always come back to support the growing effort of hands on education. Being a entrepreneurship major and having the ability to start a business with $5,000 from the school was a mere blessing.
By nature my courses overlap in what the professors are teaching especially with marketing courses. I am tired of sitting through lectures on the same topic and want to learn new information. The teachers need to do a better job figuring out who is teaching what.
Our outstanding administrators work with every student to make the most effective use of the students' time and the school's resources. I was able to create a unique combination of majors without taking repetitive classes thanks to our advisors. As a Christian school, our values are evident throughout the administration, faculty, and students - showing honesty and compassion, without being pushy bible freaks.
